New owners of old houses in Belleville and Hastings are often interested in finding out who built the property and when, or who has lived in it since. Taxation records can be a useful source of information for this. Municipalities need to know who owns all the lots of land in their jurisdiction.

We are excited to be able to offer in-person fitness classes for our spring session! If you prefer Zoom, don’t worry as most of the older adult fitness classes will be offered both in-person and over Zoom to ensure everyone is comfortable attending. We will also continue to offer a variety of free zoom programs.

Research logs are the key to tracking negative and positive searches so you can make progress in your research. Learn about various types of logs, then follow a case study showing how the research log was key to solving the problem. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

March 24: For A Better Life

The Hastings County Historical Society and the Belleville Public Library will be presenting by Zoom on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. “For a Better Life: Post-War Dutch Immigration to Canada” by Napanee author, John Immerseel. Beginning in 1947, almost 500 000 Dutch emigrants left the Netherlands. Nearly 200 000 later arrived in Canada.

Unsung Heroes Award: Ontario Ancestors

The Unsung Heroes Grant program is designed to provide a scanner and software to facilitate genealogical societies, historical societies, and museums making images available to the genealogy community. The grant includes a high-quality scanner, software to save and back up images, and two copies of Vivid-Pix RESTORE software. The package value is $500. Congratulations OGS.

Starting on Friday February 12th at 5 pm till Monday February 15th at 5 pm, select Branches will be opening their Members Only sections, which are full of one-of-a-kind and local resources, for you to explore. See what is available and you may decide a membership to our Society is very much worth the investment.
