HINT: You find a broken tombstone in the Stockdale Cemetery in Murray Township. The last name “Dorland” is visible as is “Cal”, the first three letters of the first name. Entering “Dorland” in the global search box at the top right of the table produces over 200 matches. Using the search boxes at the bottom of each column one could enter “Dorland” in the SURNAME field and “Cal%” in the GIVEN NAMES field using the wildcard “%” to complete the missing letters of the given name, and produce the target individual in one search. In other cases, advanced search boxes at the bottom of each column can be combined providing a way to precisely search within each column for a specific text string. An “advanced search” would allow using “Dorland” in the SURNAME field, “C%” in the GIVEN NAMES field together with “Stockdale” or “Murray” in the TITLE field to refine the search. [The “clear filters button” erases the entries in all fields and readies the form for the next search.] Additional resources can be accessed in the Quinte Branch Research Library or through TONI, The Ontario Name Index, maintained by the Ontario Genealogical Society.
