HINT: Since the only source document for this list is the Prince Edward County Directory of Surnames for 1865, the SURNAME column is the primary field on which to search. A search on a surname in this list will typically bring up only one record or multiple records having the same surname. Care should be taken to note that the spelling of some surnames had not been standardized by 1865. For example, a search on Vanblaricom matches one specific reference; while a search on Van Blaricom matches a different reference in the list. Using the wildcard “%” like this, “Van%Blaricom”, matches both these references. Most surnames in this list are simple matches in the search field at the bottom of the SURNAME column or in the global search field at the top right above the table. In other databases where the data and sources are more varied, advanced search boxes at the bottom of each column provide a way to precisely search within each column for a specific text string. [The “clear filters button” erases the entries in all fields and readies the form for the next search.] Additional resources can be accessed in the Quinte Branch Research Library or through TONI, The Ontario Name Index, maintained by the Ontario Genealogical Society.
When you have narrowed your search, clicking the “PRINT” button will set up a page that can be printed using the default settings of your computer system and either mailed to the Quinte Branch OGS for research assistance or taken when you visit the Research Library in person. Clicking the “PDF” button will automatically download a pdf-formatted document containing your search results to your default download folder. This pdf document can be either printed or sent by email to the Quinte Branch OGS for additional research assistance.
