HINT: The “advanced filters” at the bottom of each column often provide needed refinement for a search. As an example, a tombstone is discovered in the Belleville Cemetery with the surname of “Abraham” barely visible. It appears that the first letter of the given name might be either “T” or “F” and that the death date was 19–. A basic search in this database on the surname “Abraham” produces almost 550 matches. Searching for “Abraham, T%” produces no matching records while a search for “Abraham, F%” produces a single match. Noting that this is a record of a death announcement in the Belleville Intelligencer newspaper, a further search in the OGS Quinte Branch Research Library or the Belleville Public Library might reveal additional details of this individual’s life, perhaps clarifying that this is the individual whose tombstone was discovered. [The “clear filters button” erases the entries in all fields and readies the form for the next search.] Additional resources can be accessed in the Quinte Branch Research Library or through TONI, The Ontario Name Index, maintained by the Ontario Genealogical Society.
