Quinte Branch Names Index Database Portal
The search algorithm now incorporates a “logical AND search”. Enter either a single name or multiple names separated by a space. The search algorithm will examine each record in the database for the existence of all the words entered. For example, if the names John and Smith are entered, each record in the database will be checked to determine if it contains the value John [john] AND the value Smith [smith]. The search is not case-sensitive. Entered values may be found as part of larger words, such as john producing Johnson and Meiklejohn or smith finding Goldsmith and Sexsmith. Searches may result in values being found in different fields in the database, such as Bert finding both the given names Albert and Roberta and the surnames Albertse and Bertelsen.
Searches for a specific combination of names, such as “John Smith”, should enclose the names within double quotes.
